Need some vinyl repaired, but don’t want to tackle it on your own? Then let the flooring experts at The Carpet House take care of business for you. Besides carrying brand name flooring manufacturers, we also do a variety of flooring services for residents in the Edinburg, Pharr, and McAllen areas.
One of these services is vinyl repair. Is this something you could potentially do yourself? Technically yes, depending on your patience and how much time you have available. Some of these projects are obviously larger than others, so it is best to let the flooring professionals at The Carpet House to take a look at it first.
Vinyl flooring could have a few issues happen to it over time. Cut and/or cracks could happen due to normal wear and tear of the flooring (especially if it receives a lot of foot traffic). The adhesive could also become dry, making the edges and corners peel up. Water damage can make the flooring ‘bubble’. This is yet another reason to repair your vinyl flooring.
The first thing we will do is assess how large of an area needs to be repaired. If it is a few squares, we’ll need a new vinyl sheet a bit larger than the damaged area. After marking out what needs to be replaced, we’ll cut the square(s) out and replace them with new vinyl. New adhesive is applied and we roll it down to make sure the adhesive hardens and sticks.
Something else that can occur is that the vinyl can curl. If this happens, the vinyl tile will need to be heated and have a small amount of adhesive applied to the back of it. If too much adhesive is used, the vinyl tile could ripple causing yet another issue. After the adhesive is applied we need to roll the tile back down, making it secure. We will also wipe up any extra adhesive so the floor isn’t sticky.
If the damage to the vinyl flooring is too much to repair, or if it will look to out of place next to the older vinyl it may be time for an entire new floor. The Carpet House’s flooring professionals will be able to give you recommendations on what to do. If it isn’t worth repairing the vinyl, we’ll let you know. The bottom line is The Carpet House wants you to be happy with your floor.
